Cancer-causing mutations in the BRCA gene came roaring into our collective consciousness when Angelina Jolie candidly shared her decision to undergo a double mastectomy to prevent the inherited cancer that claimed the lives of her mother and aunt. But what exactly are “inherited” cancers? What is a BRCA mutation? What are the risks? How are men affected— can they be carriers? How are genetic cancers different from other cancers? Where is research headed? Please join us for a panel discussion hosted by the BRCA Foundation and featuring Dr. Allison Kurian, Director of the Stanford Women’s Clinical Cancer Genetics Program. Other panelists will include a BRCA+ late-stage ovarian cancer survivor, a previvor (someone who’s had prophylactic surgery because of a greatly increased risk of getting cancer), and a genetic counselor. On-site genetic testing will be available. This panel discussion will be preceded by a screening of "Pink & Blue: Colors of Hereditary Cancer."

Cancer might be in your DNA. Cancer-causing mutations in the BRCA gene came roaring into our collective consciousness when Angelina Jolie candidly shared her decision to undergo a double mastectomy to prevent inherited cancer. How does a BRCA mutation affect the risk of cancer for both men and women? How are genetic cancers different than other cancers, and who should be tested? Join us for a panel discussion on genetic cancer, treatment and prevention. Genetic counselors from Color Genomics will be on hand to demonstrate how testing works.

Learn about BRCA genetic mutation - what it is and its implications. Did you know men can get breast cancer? Did you know screening protocol? What does this mean for family planning? Come learn the facts and dispel the myths. All panels will include a world-renowned BRCA expert, a BRCA cancer survivor or previvor (someone who carries the mutation but has had prophylactic surgery to reduce her risk of getting cancer), and a genetic counselor.
The BRCA Foundation welcomes your support toward our goal of eradicating BRCA cancers. Your donation will go toward research at any one of our investigator locations.
Not only is your cash donation 100% tax-deductible, but 100% of all cash donations go directly to cancer research. This is possible becuase of a generous donation made specifically to cover all administrative expenses.
We are pleased to partner with Color Genomics on the Family Testing Program. Color Genomics is a health technology company that analyzes 30 genes, including BRCA1 and BRCA2, to help women and men understand their risk for the most common hereditary cancers, including breast, ovarian, colon, and pancreatic cancer.
The Family Testing Program offers deeply reduced-cost genetic testing of only $50 for a cancer panel, including BRCA cancers. All first-degree relatives (parents, siblings, and children) of BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation carriers are eligible.
We know it is possible. We know that cutting-edge scientific research being done today will bring about the therapies, cures and preventative treatments that will save the lives – and improve the quality of life – of millions of BRCA-positive individuals tomorrow.
